Admissions Spotlight: How to Have a Successful Career in Admissions
In this admissions spotlight, Julie Iemole sat down with Julie Olson to find out more about her career in admissions, advice she has for potential students, and some fun facts about herself.
Q: What is the most rewarding part of your job? A: When I get to see one of my students on the graduation roster, and when I hear about the great job they have landed then I know that I have helped change a life.
Q: Can you describe your typical day at Rasmussen College? A: There is no typical day in my job, which is one of the great things about it! The most important part is to assist the needs of current as well as prospective students. Ongoing training is also a very important part of my job.
Q: What advice could you offer to someone thinking about going back to school? A: It’s important to research the area that you will be working in for guidance when choosing a degree. For example, if you are considering a career within Health Sciences you may want to speak with employees of a clinic or even volunteer to learn more. All of this may push you out of your comfort zone but it will give you some great insight into the career field that you are considering.
About Julie Olson, Executive Program Manager Julie has been with Rasmussen University for six years and specializes in assisting students in online, accelerated programs. Rasmussen University's Bachelor's Degree Completion program, AcceleratED, offers students who have 40 semester or 60 quarter credits the opportunity to complete their bachelor’s degree in as little as 18 months. She has previously worked with students within the schools of Health Sciences, Business, Justice Studies, and Technology and Design.
Educational Background: Julie has a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Southwest Minnesota State located in Marshall, MN.
Hobbies: Julie loves the water and anything related to water sports. She also enjoys the winter season and snow shoeing. Some of her other hobbies include traveling, cooking, sewing, decorating and basically doing anything creative. She is a proclaimed magazine junkie!
Fun fact: She has a fascination with helicopters.
