Many of us want to pursue an education but need to make an income for our families and ourselves at the same time. Not just any education experience will do in this venture though—the education must also be valuable and intellectually challenging. We also need a program that is convenient and can fit into (or around) our busy schedules. These are all things that Jordan Flick considered as he was searching for a higher education program to complete his Bachelor’s degree.
Jordan grew up in Dassel, Minnesota and received his general Associate’s degree from Ridgewater College in Willmar, Minnesota.
While he received a foundational education, Jordan still felt he lacked the experience necessary for the workforce. He was also slightly unsure about what he wanted to do and, because of this, did not know if he would be successful. So, he began to seek out Bachelor’s degree programs that would fit his unique needs.
His search brought him to Rasmussen College. Once Jordan determined Rasmussen met his criteria of flexible, affordable and intellectually stimulating, he applied to the College. Shortly after that, he started in the School of Business.
Jordan says he always had an interest in marketing before going to college, but Rasmussen’s fully online Bachelor’s degree in Marketing allowed him to dig deeper into the subject matter.
“Marketing is something I have had an interest in for a while—marketing is cool because if you truly believe in a product you can use your knowledge to promote it better,” Jordan says.
Having an interest in the subject and the ability to work on his studies in a convenient manner, Jordan ultimately ended up completing his program more quickly than he expected.
“Earning my Bachelor’s degree allowed me to pursue opportunities that I wouldn’t have had otherwise. It was also nice to get the program done more quickly through Rasmussen’s accelerated program. I ultimately finished my degree in 18 months,” he says.
So, where is Jordan now that he has successfully completed his Marketing program?
Currently, he is an employee at his alma mater! Upon graduating in 2014, Jordan applied for a job at Rasmussen College in its Admissions department and then moved into a role on the Student Engagement team. There he fields incoming calls and answers questions on Rasmussen’s click-to-chat service from potential students.
Since, Jordan has worked for Rasmussen for 4.5 years and he loves his job.
When asked what his favorite part of his job is, Jordan says, “I get to talk with different people every day and even people from all over the country. I love getting people set up for college and helping them with their first steps toward a degree.”
Jordan is not only a celebrated Rasmussen employee and alumni; he is also a globally recognized artist! Jordan and his father have been the highlight of Fox 9 news twice in the last year for their incredibly detailed lawn mowing designs. The father-son duo entered a worldwide lawn design competition in the U.K. and had two of their designs place in the top six spots. They competed against others from at least 10 other countries around the world.
In order to be a stellar employee and globally recognized artist, one must also have amazing time management skills. That is why it is not hard to believe that work-life balance and time management are incredibly important to Jordan. To potential new students he says, “Stay on top of your homework and assignments. Don’t be afraid to ask professors or advisors for help too.”
The flexibility that Jordan’s education afforded him led him to get a practical degree and it allowed him to assist other students who are enrolling at Rasmussen. He is now giving back to the place that gave to him.
